The Greenville Choral Union and Orchestra presented its 93rd annual performance of George Frederic Handel’s “Messiah” and selections from John Rutter’s “Magnificat” on Sunday, December 3, on the Greenville University campus.
A large crowd gathered in the Whitlock Music Center to hear the two-hour performance, under the direction of Dr. Don Frazure, director of choral activities at the University (pictured above). The choral union is made up of members of the Greenville community, Greenville University students, and alumni of Greenville University.
The program featured eight soloists: Dan Denner, a baritone and 2008 GU alum; Don Frazure, a tenor and the director; Rachel Frazure, a soprano and wife of the director; Marissa Horning, a mezzo soprano and 2023 GU alum; Michelle Rose, a soprano and previous accompanist for the choral union; Will Sunderland, a tenor and 2020 GU alum; Jennifer Wilson, a soprano and longtime member of the choral union (pictured above); and Joy Winkler, a mezzo soprano.
Accompanying the vocalists on the continuo and piano was Rebecca Koebbe.
A second performance was given on Sunday, December 10, at Christ Church of Fairview Heights, Illinois, where Dr. Frazure is the pastor of worship arts.
