The Panther-Cardinal Connection

Published: April 13, 2021

The Panther-Cardinal ConnectionGreenville University Panthers are finding their way into major league baseball operations through the St. Louis Cardinals organization, and the match between G.U. talent and Cardinals' needs seems to fit like glove . . . a custom-tailored MLB glove at that.

The Redbirds front office recently announced that Laney Thacker 17, alumna of G.U.s sport management program, was promoted to event operations assistant. Laney started with the Cardinals as a ticket sales agent and later served as direct sales representative. In her new role, she manages daily communications with the legion of ushers and event attendants that keep Busch Stadium humming on game day.

Proud of the Panther Presence

Jane Bell, management professor at Greenville University is particularly proud of the presence Panthers have established with the Cardinals organization in a relatively short period of time since the Briner School opened in 2013.

We have three graduates working full time with the Cardinals now, and senior Jake Vanwey just completed an internship with them this year. [Thats] pretty good for a program that is only five years old.

Other alumni with the Cards organization include Brady Bruhn 02, manager of season tickets, and Steph Durocher 16, group sales account executive.

The sport management program, part of the School of Professional Studies at Greenville University, covers a broad range of topics, including business management, marketing, operations and event management, sponsorship and sales, digital media and sport law.
