Jeff Wilson to Present at Conference of Supreme Praise in Mexico City

Jeff Wilson directingDirector of Choral Activities at Greenville University and Professor of Music Jeff Wilson will present at the 2018 Congreso Alabanza Suprema, Conference of Supreme Praise, in Mexico City, August 3-5.

The Christian choir conference includes workshops on choral direction, vocal technique and music ministry. Choir directors, choir members and worship leaders typically attend.

Wilson, also a longtime minister of music at the Greenville Free Methodist Church, is one of several presenters to speak about music ministry. He will oversee two workshops and assist with conducting the conference choir.

He first learned of the conference last summer when he visited Mexico City to explore potential opportunities for a Greenville University Choir tour. A short time later, he received an invitation to present.

Building Bridges Through Worship

“Much of what we hear on the news these days tends to lead to a divisive spirit between people from different nations and cultural groups,” says Wilson. “I hope to build bridges between our countries, between Greenville University and those in attendance at the conference, and [eventually] between our students and Christians in Mexico.”

Past attendees of Congreso Alabanza Suprema have described the conference experience as learning mixed with praise:

  • “A magnificent opportunity to perfect our gifts, and learn every day. Perfect praise to the Lord.”
  • “A beautiful time of learning, reflection and lots, lots of good music . . . music from heaven.”
  • “Thank God for the beautiful moments . . . only to [God] we give glory and honor.”

Wilson has assumed the role of student as he prepares for the trip. “I’m learning a lot about Mexico and U.S./Mexico relations, as well as Latin American music and culture,” he says. “I am also making some improvements in my Spanish language skills.”

Greenville University’s new five-year strategic plan emphasizes the value of expanding its reach: “We commit to preparing our students, faculty and staff for engaging in a diverse, global and interconnected world.”
