Greenville University To Open New Health Clinic For Students

Published: April 13, 2021

Beginning Fall 2020, GU will offer on-campus healthcare for students, in partnership with local HSHS Medical Group.

A new clinic, staffed by a nurse practitioner from HSHS, will serve students four days per week at the corner of Elm and Durley Streets just east of the GU library. A new fee structure will include unlimited access to the clinic for students who take classes on campus and pay their once-per-year student fee.

Many basic healthcare services are included in that fee, such as wellness checks, acute care, and physical exams. For additional charges, the clinic will also provide lab work and immunizations and fill some prescriptions.

Greenville University initiated this partnership with HSHS Medical Group after students expressed frustration at their limited options for non-emergency care.

Dean of Students Ross Baker said, Most of our students do not have a primary physician in the area, and trying to get one in a timely fashion can be difficult. In addition, he says, We have students who do not have access to cash for co-pays, and some students have no insurance.

Baker says this clinic will fill the need for routine, non-emergency medical care, without requiring a copay or insurance.

HSHS Medical Group is pleased to partner with Greenville University to offer convenient on-site care to their students, faculty and staff, said Melinda Clark, chief executive officer of HSHS Medical Group. It is encouraging to see organizations like Greenville University take an active role in the health and wellness of their community.
