GC Teacher Education Awarded National Accreditation

Published: April 13, 2021

The Greenville College School of Education recently received accreditation from the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) for their traditional undergraduate, Undergraduate Teacher Education Partnership (UTEP) and Master of Arts in Education- Reading (MAE-R) programs, effective May 7, 2014 through May 7, 2021. TEAC supports the preparation of competent, caring and qualified professional educators through an evidence-based accreditation process awarded through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

In todays educational climate of teacher accountability, this accreditation demonstrates to students that we too are accountable. This models many of the qualities we are trying to instill in our students; accountability, being a reflective practitioner, applying and maintaining standards of teaching, says Dr. Mark Lamb, Dean of the School of Education. We practice what we preach. The national accreditation also demonstrates the quality of the program we have at Greenville.

Associate Dean of the School of Education, Dr. Brian Reinhard, comments on the accreditation. Since its inception, GCs School of Education has been committed to the business of preparing competent, caring and qualified teachers by providing a high quality, Christ-centered education. After an extensive audit and long quality review process, it is satisfying to know that TEAC agrees with our claim of such a commitment, and strongly communicated their agreement by granting the highest level of accreditation possible: seven years of full accreditation, with no stipulations.

Providers accredited under TEAC standards, as well as those accredited under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards, are now served by the single specialized accreditation system for educator preparation in the United States, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). More than 900 educator preparation providers participate in the CAEP accreditation system.

GC offers 13 undergraduate teacher education programs in addition to undergraduate teacher education partnerships, five graduate Master of Arts in Education programs and additional endorsements and coursework.
