Briner School Undergraduate Estes Publishes Case Study on Public Relations and Social Responsibility

Published: April 13, 2021

Ivey Publishing has just released a case study co-authored by Greenville University senior Shirley Estes and David Anderson, associate professor in Greenville Universitys Briner School of Business.

Briner School Undergraduate Estes Publishes Case Study on Public Relations and Social ResponsibilityThe case study examines the influence of social issues on retailers policies. Entitled The Kroger Co.: Public Relations and Social Responsibility, the paper appears on Ivey Publishings website as a resource for undergraduates studying marketing and/or public relations.

The study references gun violence in 2014 and the subsequent push by gun control advocates to pressure retailers into prohibiting customers from carrying guns in stores. While Target Corporation yielded, The Kroger Company chose to maintain its existing conceal carry policy.

The case examines the relationship between a businesss public reputation and profit.

The Full Undergraduate Experience

Estes will graduate this spring with a double major in marketing and Spanish. She looks back on a university experience packed with growth opportunities in the classroom and beyond, including:

Still, she is grateful for the support of others along the way:

  • Professor Anderson, Ann Frailey and Ivey Publishings team of editors, who helped Shirley move the case study forward. The endeavor was bigger and more complicated than she imagined at the start.
  • Faculty, who invested in her future.
  • G.U.s track coaches, who played an essential part in Shirleys development and growth.
Priceless Investment

Finally, as a student who is paying for her own education, Shirley is particularly grateful for scholarship donors and the priceless investment they have made on her behalf.

I cannot stress the amount of appreciation I have and the importance of these scholarships and the people who donate to [them].

Her success is their success.
