Job Description

Pay Rate: $9.00/hour. Job Description: Greenville University's Student Success Center offers GU students a variety of resources in order to thrive academically. One of those resources offered is peer tutoring which are free, face to face and or online tutoring that seeks to help students become engaged, self-sufficient learners who are confident to reach their academic goals. Peer tutoring is made available for all Greenville undergraduate students. As a peer tutor, your job will consist of collaborating one-one-one face-to-face, online or small groups to develop the skills and confidence of students to become a self-sufficient learner. Job Responsibilities: Attend all tutor meetings and trainings; Participate in required tutor certification process; Helping students develop their own best practices for becoming self-sufficient learners; Adhering to SSC policies, procedures, and philosophies; Carrying out all SSC obligations in a responsible and professional manner; Responding quickly and clearly to communications from the SSC staff; Complete attendance data survey for every session and turn it in weekly. (Online) Attending a paid one-day tutor-training orientation session prior to the beginning of each regular semester (fall and spring); Attending mandatory professional development/tutor training meetings and completing follow-up activities; Completing supplemental SSC professional development activities (tutor reflections, tutor observations, SSC class visits, etc.) Familiarizing yourself with and helping maintain available resources for students and staff in the SSC; Referring students and/or staff to appropriate resource materials based on individual needs; Reporting any problems with schedules and/or tutees to the Director of the SSC. Required Qualifications: Must be enrolled as a Greenville University undergraduate student. Must be a sophomore or above. Must have a 3.0 or above GPA. Must have a B or higher in each of the courses wanting to tutor. Must be a full time, undergraduate student enrolled in 12+ credits (Except for seniors in their second semester). Ability to communicate effectively to help students construct their own understandings of course materials. Ability to listen to the needs of students and work cooperatively in setting realistic and productive learning goals. Sensitivity to the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds of SSC students. Dependability and personal accountability. Self-motivation, self-regulation, and a desire to mature and learn in a professional teaching/learning environment.
