Music Performance Minor

In 2005, the Music Department moved into our state-of-the-art Music Center which houses four digital recording studios, one analog recording studio, 24 sound-proof practice rooms, a 500 seat recital hall, and spacious classrooms, rehearsal rooms and faculty offices.

At GU, there’s a real opportunity for performance. Periodic departmental recitals stimulate creativity and discipline conducive to continued improvement. Wide varieties of ensembles provide extensive exposure to diverse music literature.

The Greenville University Choir is a tradition in itself. Performing many styles of great sacred music, their annual spring tour has included journeys throughout the continental USA, Canada, England, and Central Europe. In recent years the GU Choir has also been invited perform at serveral professional conferences, (Illinois Music Education Conference, The Calvin Symposium on Worship, and the American Choral Directors Association Central Division Convention) as well as with a number of professional ensembles (Boston Camerata, The American Kantorei, the Kingsbury Ensemble).

All members of the college and community are invited to participate in the Chorale, which performs the great chorale masterworks, including an annual performance of Handel's oratorio, Messiah.

The select ensemble known as the GU Chamber Singers perform choral literature from the Renaissance period to the twenty-first century.

Our Concert Band presents two home concerts each semester.

Opportunities are also available in smaller ensembles of brass, strings, woodwinds, and jazz band.

The Greenville University Music Department embraces dedicated and disciplined students desiring to pursue diverse types of music while offering their best to God. You will study with accomplished faculty and gain hands-on experience. You can even start a lab band to earn college credit as you write, record and perform.

The music performance minor allows you to focus extra attention on your major instrument and hone your skills in that area.
