Elementary Education Major Overview

The primary goal of Greenville University’s Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program is to equip teachers for the 21st century learning environment. We offer a rigorous program, embedded with multiple opportunities for hands-on experience in a variety of learning environments. A typical Elementary Education graduate will have spent over 300 hours in the classroom from rural settings to urban settings, as they seek to educate the whole child using best-practice instruction and time-honored pedagogical approaches. The mission of our program is to train teachers to be servant leaders in a culturally diverse world.

In the Elementary Education program at Greenville University, you will:

  • Develop curriculum, methods, and materials for children in grades 1-6.
  • Develop a personal philosophy of Elementary Education through research and discussion-based courses.
  • Learn how to facilitate Character Education programs.
  • Understand the individual needs of each child, and create an environment where differences are celebrated. Understanding these differences, you can provide an environment for all children to be successful learners.
  • Integrate classroom management, practice cooperative learning, and learn to network.
