Early Childhood Education Major Overview

A Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education (ECE), will prepare and license students for a career in teaching children from birth through age eight.  With our double major in Elementary Education, students can teach through 6th grade.  Our program is accredited through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) at Greenville University, and is designed with courses to ensure teachers are prepared for the culturally diverse classroom.  Our Early Childhood program is specifically constructed to prepare teachers to create developmentally appropriate, child-centered, and play-based experiences, while learning skills to engage families in the education of their children.  In this program, students will take part in practical classroom experiences by completing over 300 field experience hours starting their freshman year.

With the Early Childhood Education degree at Greenville University, you’ll learn how to:

  • Develop curriculum, methods, and materials for children birth to eight.
  • Develop a personal philosophy of Early Childhood Education through research and discussion-based courses.
  • Learn how to facilitate Character Education programs.
  • Understand the individual needs of each child, and create an environment where differences are celebrated. Understanding these differences, you can provide an environment for all children to be successful learners.
