“We will help you find who you are going to become. That is our calling.” –Jake Amundson, Associate Professor of Art

Who We Are

The Center for Visual Culture and Media Studies (CVCMS) is a consortium of media-related academic programs at Greenville University. The CVCMS exists as a resource-sharing mechanism for member departments and encourages collaborative innovation among students and faculty.  Reflecting the diversity of the various fields in our consortium, the CVCMS encompasses visual, verbal, and performative arts, as well as media analysis.

The CVCMS consists of four core majors (Art, Media Communication, Digital Media, and English) and two minors (Theatre Studies; and Media, Art, and Design). Our academic programs are designed to mix well with one another so that students can easily double major or minor within the CVCMS.

Our mission is to prepare students to create and critically examine works in diverse media.  A broad-based, interdisciplinary approach to arts and media is at the heart of this mission.  CVCMS faculty and students are engaged in analyzing emerging cultural forms, while creating media projects that offer a reflective response. Ultimately, the CVCMS strives to offer a 21st-century education, one that recognizes the necessity of interdisciplinary thinking.

Could the CVCMS be the right fit for you?

We are home to the makers. Students who find their place in the CVCMS are the ones who have multiple talents and interests, to the point where choosing just one academic focus feels impossible. Whether it’s double-majoring within the CVCMS, getting involved in Student Media, or taking on one of our interdisciplinary minors, we encourage our students to treat the CVCMS as a gymnasium for creativity and innovation.
