Women’s Tennis Competes at Principia

Published: April 13, 2021

ELSAH, Ill. The womens tennis team started their year on a rough note Friday, as they dropped all matches in each flight while competing in Principia Colleges two-day, four team invitational.

Joining Greenville in the mix of teams taking the court were host Principia College, Missouri Baptist, and NCAA Division II Quincy College.

Greenville battled hard against Principia and Quincy in both singles and doubles during day one action, but failed to claim a single victory.

The highlight of the day for the Panthers was first-year player Shayla Story. After dropping the first set 1-6 to Quincys Samantha Huelin, Story answered back with a decisive 6-2 effort to force a third-set tie-brake. However, in the third Story was unable to rally, and fell to Huelin in a 10-6 finale. Storys 6-2 win in the second set marked the only set win for Greenville on the day.

The Lady Panthers were scheduled to compete in day two action on Saturday, but due to adverse weather conditions, the day was cancelled.

The women's tennis team will next take court at Hilton Head Island, as the team will travel to South Carolina for their annual trip starting Sunday, March 13.
