Women's Soccer Shuts Out Oakland City University

GREENVILLE, Ill. --The Greenville women's soccer team continued with their success after shutting out Oakland City 3-0 on Tuesday. It was a hot and sunny day at home, but the ladies were up to the challenge.

Seven minutes in the match, sophomore Mindy Siebert (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) was taken down in the box by a harsh tackle which awarded Greenville with a penalty kick. Siebert calmly stepped up to take the kick to, and she finished it brilliantly, giving Greenville the lead at 1-0.

Throughout the first half, possession went back and forth. In the 43rd minute, freshman Kristen Koehler (St. Charles, Mo.) played a greatball to the feet of Siebert as she tucked it away in the bottom corner of the goal extending the lead to 2-0 entering halftime.

With the second half underway, the Lady Panthers continued with their possession play. In the 52nd minute, senior Leeza Jedrzejczyk (Chicago, Ill.) broke through two aggressive tackles on the flank and found herself one on one with the keeper as she passed the ball to the back post of the goal extending the Lady Panthers lead 3-0.

The Lady Panthers outshot Oakland City 19-9, and the corner kicks were 7-3 in the match. Freshman Heidi Koehl (Belleville, Ill.) was credited the shutout, having 7 saves on the afternoon.

The Lady Panthers improved to 5-1-1 on the season and will host Illinois College Thursday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the John Strahl Athletic Complex.
