Published: April 13, 2021

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The Panthers used an inspired second half rally to battle back on the road in Terre Haute on Tuesday and down the Engineers of Rose-Hulman 2-1.

Senior Rachel Irwin and sophomore Maureen Murphy helped carry the visiting Black & Orange, each posting one goal on one shot with an assist in the 2-1 victory.

Despite an own goal scare in the 22nd minute of play that served GC a 1-0 deficit, the women showed their resolve after intermission and netted chances at 49:35 and 80:50. The second half equalizer came on an assist from Irwin and freshman Kayla Panzau and was buried by Murphy. The game winner in the 80th minute came on a strike from Irwin on a well-timed ball by Murphy.

Defensively senior Emily Rose earned the win, notching five saves and allowing no goals in her 44:45 minutes of play.

Collectively, GC outshot Rose-Hulman in shots (15-13) and corners (5-2).

With the win womens soccer advances to 5-4 (1-0 SLIAC) and will resume play on Saturday, October 1 as they welcome conference foe Spalding University to Francis Field for a 2:00 pm tilt.
