Women's track and field earns third at Washington - St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The women's track and field team opened their outdoor season with a third place showing at Washington - St. Louis on Friday. Greenville sent six women to meet and were led by Chelsea Gilles' championships in the 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Gilles competed in the first heat of the 200 and completed the race in 25.64 seconds which was eight tenths of a second better than the runner up. In the 400, Gilles finished over three seconds ahead of the runner up as she posted a time of 58.58 seconds.

Two throwers provided second and third place finishes. Abby Hill was second in the hammer with a toss of 37.96 meters (124-6.75). Marideth Tate posted a third place performance in the shot put with a distance of 9.83 m (32-3).

Greenville's Krissy Finley was fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:26.44.

The women earned 50 points in the meet.

The team returns to Washington - St. Louis on Friday and Saturday for Washington's annual invite.
