Women's tennis falls to Webster on Senior Day

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's tennis team closed regular season play with an 8-1 loss to Webster in their final tune-up before SLIAC tournament action. Before the match, Coach Pam Craig paid tribute to seniors Abby Maurer, Emily Rauch, and Lexi Baysinger for their contributions to the tennis program.

Greenville's doubles teams fell behind after the first set of matches. The No. 3 team of Gianna Paden and Abby Maurer tested Webster as they pushed toward an 8-5 loss.

Greenville's No. 1 team of Baysinger and Anna Brannon and No. 2 team of Allison Fennewald and Rauch fell 8-2 in their matches.

Greenville's Rauch took the Lady Panther victory of the day with a 6-3, 2-1 lead before Webster's No. 5 retired.

No. 4 Fennewald and No. 6 Maurer came up short in 6-1, 6-2 matches.

No. 1 Baysinger, No. 2 Brannon, and No. 3 Emilie Britt recorded straight set losses.

The Lady Panthers (5-10, 2-3 SLIAC) will face Blackburn in Friday's SLIAC quarterfinal with a semifinal date against Webster on the line.
