Women's Soccer picks up SLIAC awards

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The SLIAC honored six members of the women's soccer program for their accomplishments this season. Two players were recognized on the second team and three were third team. Lexi Baysinger was selected for the all-sportsmanship team.

Headlining the way were second team selections Barbaro Nigro and Tymber Gabbert.

Nigro, a freshman midfielder from Livingston, Tenn., was third on the team with four goals. Her five assists were second on the team, and her 13 points were third.

Gabbert, a sophomore defender from Sedalia, Mo., tallied one goal, one assist, and three points.

Gaining third team honors were Kieley Leach, Kency Lopez, and Hope Brakenhoff.

Leach, a junior forward from Sycamore, Ill., was the team's leader with 13 goals and 30 points during the season. She added four assists.

Lopez, a junior midfielder from Carbondale, Ill., recorded two goals and a team-high seven assists. She was fourth on the team with 11 points.

Brakenhoff, a freshman goalkeeper from Litchfield, Ill., compiled a record of 3-11-4 with one shutout. She posted a goals against average of 1.70 and had 91 saves.

The SLIAC also recognized one individual from each team, selected by her coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship. The 2014 All-Sportsmanship Team included Lexi Baysinger, a junior midfielder.

Greenville College received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award for the first time since the award's inception in 2005. The team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship.
