GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team cut an 18 point deficit to a single point with a little over one minute remaining but couldn't get the final boost to catapult them over the top as they lost 54-53 to NCCAA regional opponent Trinity Christian on Thursday night.

Greenville trailed by 18 with 12:24 to go, but they held Trinity to just six points over the final nine minutes of the game to nearly complete the comeback.

Laura Goodnight was the only Lady Panther to hit the double figure scoring mark as she had 10 points to go with a game-high four blocked shots.

Taylor Paulin made three three-pointers to end with nine points.

Kayla Hyde was awarded her sixth start of the season and led Greenville with seven rebounds.

Greenville outrebounded Trinity by four, 36-32, but had 20 turnovers, including critical giveaways in the final minute to prevent them from taking the win.

The Lady Panthers played with heavy hearts in their first game following the death of Pastor Gary Mulholland, older brother of head coach Roy Mulholland. Pastor Gary died on Tuesday due to complications following heart surgery in Michigan.

Assistant coach Doug Faulkner served as head coach in Mulholland's absence. Mulholland will miss Saturday's game as he is with his family in Michigan for the funeral. Both teams joined in a moment of silent prayer before the game in Pastor Gary's memory.

Greenville (9-12) returns to action Saturday at MacMurray as they aim to solidify the final position in the SLIAC tournament.
