Women's basketball nipped by Eureka

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team mounted a comeback effort Wednesday night but weren't able to get past Eureka as the Red Devils took a 76-70 victory. Laura Goodnight added to her credentials as a conference newcomer of the year candidate as she posted a 18 point, 10 rebound night.

The teams were evenly matched but Eureka jumped out to an 16 point advantage in the first half that Greenville cut to seven at halftime. Greenville eventually tied the score and took the lead.

However, Eureka closed the game with four free throws when Greenville was forced to foul to win the contest.

Claire Schmitt posted a 15 point, four assist effort on the evening.

Missy Deal added 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Panthers (4-6, 1-3 SLIAC) travel to Webster for a 1 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.
