Volleyball Opens Dominican Star Classic with Four-Set Loss

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Greenville College volleyball team opened play Friday with a four-set loss to undefeated Lakeland in the Dominican Star Classic tournament opener for both teams.

The Lady Panthers opened slowly, dropping the first set 25-16, before evening up the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. Lakeland closed out Greenville with 25-23 and 25-19 set wins in the final two games.

Greenville was led by the offensive attack of Tricia Gall and Ansley DeVrieze who both posted nine kills. Ellen Lueking led the assist efforts for Greenville with 35.

On the defensive side, Jamie Schollenbruch headlined the Lady Panthers'defensive efforts with 17 digs, and Marie Kendrick tallied two block assists.

The loss dropped Greenville's record to 4-2, and they continue play at 7:30 p.m. Friday night against the host Dominican Stars.
