Volleyball Knocks Off Rose-Hulman in Home Opener

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Greenville College volleyball team opened the 2012 portion of their home schedule with a four-set win over undefeated Rose-Hulman Wednesday night.
Greenville jumped out to a two-set lead on the visiting Engineers, winning the firstsets 25-20 and 25-19. Thevisiting Engineers came back strong in thethird set, but Greenville was able to respond in the fourth and take the match 3-1.
Rose-Hulman entered the match 4-0. Theyare a defending2011 conference champion and participant in the NCAA tournament.
Greenville's middles were too much for the engineers to handle. Tricia Gall had 12 kills, while Marie Kendrick hadthree block solos andeight block assists. Nicole Shaeffer addedeight kills and Joelle Schoelton hadsix to round out the offense. Jamie Schollenbruch continuedas a presence in the back court, adding 19 digs and pitching inthree aces.
"We had some adjustments to the lineup tonight and I was impressed with how well the team responded, they executed the game plan perfectly," saidhead coachTomAckerman whose team defeated Rose-Hulman for the first time in his 11-year head coaching tenure.
"We scheduled a very tough firsttwo weeks so that we would be prepared for conference play and the team has responded well to that," said Ackerman. "Its been fun to play such good competition."
Greenville (4-1) returns to action Friday and Saturday at Dominican University in a four-match tournament in River Forest, Ill.
