Volleyball Dominates DIG PINK, Routes Blackburn in Straight Sets

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. GC volleyball held the annual Dig Pink cancer awareness match on Wednesday night as they stood up to cancer while blanking Blackburn 3-0.

Greenville rolled to a 25-10, 25-18, 25-13 victory in boisterous H.J. Long Gymnasium to stun the Beavers.

Junior Tricia Gall and freshman Nicole Schaeffer led the home Panthers in the SLIAC match, controlling the game from the first set. Gall posted seven kills in ten attempts with no hitting errors, while Schaeffer hung eight kills in nine attempts on the visiting Blackburn squad.

In the Dig Pink showcase, all players wore pink jerseys in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer, while standing up for the fight for a cure. Dig Pink is always a great event because of the overwhelming support that the campus and teams give, commented assistant coach Christy Dashiell. We hope that this showcase provided not only a sense of awareness, but truly inspires and helps individuals to focus on the importance of finding a cure.

With the win GC volleyball improves to 17-7 (11-2 SLIAC) and will next take the court Thursday, October 27 against Illinois College.
