Volleyball Clinches SLIAC Co-Championship, Downs Fontbonne in Straight Sets

GREENVILLE, Ill. With another impressive showing, the volleyball team blanked Fontbonne University Tuesday night on their way to their 24th win.

Tuesdays successful defense of H.J. Long Gymnasium was attributed to a collective offensive team performance. The Lady Panthers showcased four different women who each posted at least eight kills on the day, as they dominated from first serve, cruising to a 25-14, 25-9, and 25-15 victory. The team totaled 45 kills on the day, tallying a team kill percentage of .505 while only surrendering 11 errors.

Senior Alyssa Cliffe and junior Sydney Cooper spearheaded the Panthers defense, accounting for nearly half of the teams 37 total digs with 10 and eight, respectively.

Greenville,who is undefeated at home (10-0), improves to 24-5 overall and 15-1 in SLIAC play this year. The Lady Panthers have won 16 straight matches, as they wrapped up the co-championship of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conferenceleague title.

This has been a historic season for us, and we hope it continues, said head coach Tom Ackerman. I've been impressed with the way our team has continued to improve even this late into the year.

Greenville will host Principia in the first round of the 2010 SLIAC volleyball tournament onSaturday, Nov. 6, in Greenville, Ill. at 2 p.m. at H.J. Long Gymnasium.GC has faced Principia twice this season with both contests ending in straight set Greenville victories.
