GREENVILLE, Ill. The Panthers (1-0) wasted no time picking up where they left off in 2010, as the squad cruised to a 3-0 straight set victory over Robert Morris Springfield (3-1) on Thursday night. With the win GC now stretches their home winning streak to 11 games dating back to November 5, 2009.

Greenville, who returns four starters from last year's NCAA qualifying team, was led by freshman standout OH Nicole Schaeffers team high 12 kills, on there way to the 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 sweep of the Lady Eagles.

Our ball control was amazing tonight, and when we distribute like we did we will be very tough to beat, stated head coach Tom Ackerman. With these passers, we will definitely have several hitters who will be fun to watch, added the 10th year head coach.

In game one senior libero Sidney Cooper set the tone early showcasing a near flawless passing performance. Coopers accuracy contributed to the 12 total kills for the team in game ones 25-14 route of RMS.

Game two was much of the same for GC as a total team performance stunned the Eagles 25-15. Collectively Greenville racked up 11 kills with only one hitting error, while junior MB Tricia Gall headlined the second set with her team high six kills on seven attempts with no errors.

The Panthers closed the match with a 25-14 third set decision to complete the 3-0 sweep. In the finale Schaeffer posted four kills on six attempts with no errors on her way to hanging a team high 12 kills and a .550 hitting percentage on RMS.

As a unit, junior OH Ansley DeVrieze led the team in both digs (9) and serving aces (3), Jannell Nelly Crow dished out a team high 35 assists from her setter position, and sophomore MB Taylor Brunner earned four blocks.

Last night was a great way to open the season, commented second year assistant coach Christy Dashiell. We have set the standard high this year and are excited to see what lies ahead.

GC will return to action Friday, September 2 as they travel to Moline, Ill. to take part in the highly competitive Augie Invitational. The Panthers will first take on Central College at 6:00 pm and will follow with an 8:00 nightcap against Buena Vista University.
