Under New Leadership, GC Men’s Soccer is Prepared for New Season

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill.-- With a new coach at the forefront, 12 returning seniors, and a bright-eyed class of 14 new freshmen, the Greenville College Mens Soccer Team is ready for their 2013 season to begin.

Last year, the team finished with a season record of 10-6-3, remaining undefeated in regular season SLIAC play with a Conference record of 5-0-3. GC finished 2012 second in the SLIAC and ranked 16th in the NCCAA Division I 2012 ranking.

Coming off such a successful season, Greenville is known as a SLIAC team to beat. New Head Coach, Chris Swift, is excited to take the reigns of the Panthers in 2013.

I think, going into the season, I am excited to come into a team that has been successful in the past. Swift explains. There are high expectations from the beginning and there is no rebuilding needed.

In addition to the new head coach, the team has three veteran players serving as captains this year. Upperclassmen, Aaron Mulholland, Ryan Haas, and Thomas Crown will be the on-field leaders for GC. All three men have been a part of the program for the last three years and intend to continue the teams rich tradition of success.

Leadership on team is fantastic, Coach Swift said. All the players have set a goal to be the most successful team in Greenville College soccer and my job is to set them up to achieve that goal.

The athletes arrived in Greenville in mid-August and the entire team has been working hard to prepare for 2013.

I have been very impressed with the work rate of the whole group, Swift added. They came in fit and throughout preseason the ability to push themselves even further as a group sets us up to achieve our goals.

The team will kick-off the 2013 season this Saturday, August 31 when they travel to Deerfield, Ill. to take on Trinity International at 3:00pm.
