GREENVILLE, Ill. - Former baseball standout Stefan Neece of Greenville, Ill., has signed a professional contract to play with the Las Cruces Vaqueros of the Pecos League. The Vaqueros are in their second season of existence and their first season in the Pecos League. Their games are held at Apodaca Park in Las Cruces, N.M. The season begins May 11.

Neece, a first baseman, competed at Greenville College from 2006-10. The 2010 season was his best season for the Panthers as he helped lead the squad to an overall record of 28-14, posting a batting average of .487, 19 home runs, and 67 runs batted in. He sat out the 2009 season to rehabilitate following ligament replacement surgery.

Over his four years in a Panther uniform, Neece set numerous Greenville College single-season and career records, as he finished his career with a .402 batting average, 51 home runs, and 212 RBI in just 171 games. The teams on which he played placed second in the SLIAC tournament in 2006, 2007, and 2010 while amassing an overall record of 96-75. He was a two-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year (2006 and 2010) and newcomer of the year in 2006. He was a first team all-conference selection in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

In addition, Neece was the 2010 NCAA Division III statistical champion in slugging percentage (1.085), on-base percentage (.663), and walks per game (1.286). He was also the first Greenville College baseball player and one of three in SLIAC history to receive first team ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III all-American honors. He was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Central region first team.
