Softball wins two Friday, tops No. 22 Anderson

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The softball team picked up a pair of wins on Friday as they defeated No. 22 Anderson (IN) 8-6 and completed a twin-bill sweep with an 11-7 win over Calvin.

The Lady Panthers took a quick 2-0 lead over Anderson in G.C.'s first at bat. Anderson answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to lead 4-2 after one frame. Greenville struck back quickly, evening the score with a pair of runs in the top of the second.

The Lady Panthers tacked on another run in the top of the fourth before Anderson regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs.

Greenville got three runs in their final at bat as Tiffany Samsoe scored on a wild pitch, Jessica Laubecher singled in a run, and Shannon Elbe crossed home on a wild pitch.

Hannah Burger was the winning pitcher in a complete game effort. She threw all seven innings and permitted six runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts.

Samsoe went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Laubecher was 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Bryn McKie hit 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI, and Shelby Cash was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

In Greenville's second game, the Lady Panthers exploded for 15 hits.

The Lady Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the top of the second, but they came back with five runs in their half of the second. Calvin cut Greenville's lead to 5-3 in the top of the third.

G.C. scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to push the score to 8-3, but Calvin got two runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the Panther lead to a single run. Greenville sealed the win with a three-run bottom of the sixth with home runs by Samsoe, Oldham, and Laubecher.

Burger picked up the win as she came in to pitch four innings of relief. She gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits and five walks. Oldham threw the first two innings and returned to the circle in the seventh as she permitted two runs on six hits over three innings.

McKie went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Oldham was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Laubecher posted a 3-for-4 day with a run scored and two RBI.

The Lady Panthers (5-4) continue their season on Wednesday when they face Eureka on the road in a doubleheader.
