Softball Victorious Versus Webster on Senior Night

GREENVILLE, Ill.--The GC Softball team won both games against Webster in their Senior Night double-header, 5-3 and 7-2.

Greenville got off to a great start in the first game, scoring 3 runs in the first inning and not allowing Webster any. The Panthers continued to play well offensively, scoring one run each in the second and third innings to being the score to 5-0 GC going into the fourth. Webster did not get on the board until the 6th inning when they scored three runs and forced GC to call Jessica Laubecher from the bullpen. Fortunately, those three runs were all Webster was going to get and the Panthers won 5-3.

Hannah Burger was credited with the win, facing 23 batters, allowing 5 hits, and giving up three runs in 5.1 innings. Laubecher faced 6 batters in the 1.9 innings she was on the mound and allowed just one hit to close out the game.

Hitting was a strong suit for Greenville, with Andrea Martin hitting a double and Shannon Elbe recording a homer in the game. Martin, Elbe, Ashley Sharp, and Reanna Weidner were all credited with RBI.GC out-hit Webster 11 to 6 in the game.

The second game went just as smoothly for the Lady Panthers. GC once again took the early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. In the third, GC broke the game open, scoring 4 runs and taking the 6-0 lead. Webster scoring two runs in the 4th but GC answered with a run of their own to bring the game to its final score of 7-2, Greenville.

GC once again recorded 11 hits to Webster's 7. Martin hit a homerun and went 3 for 3 on her at-bats. Martin, Elbe, and Bryn McKie each recorded doubles. Elbe, Martin, Laubecher, Mattie Fairchild, and Darci Sample recorded RBI.

Ashley Woodrome pitched the entire game for GC. She faced 28 batters, allowed 7 hits and just 2 runs in 7 innings to get the win.

Two seniors were honored tonight. Catcher, Darci Sample, and Infielder, Ashley Sharp. Both women have been key parts of the team on and off the field in their time at GC. They will be greatly missed and difficult to replace.

The team's record is now 12-13 (7-7 SLIAC). They will play again tomorrow, April 30, when they take on Blackburn on the road.
