Softball Sweeps Rose-Hulman in 26th and 27th Wins

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The historic season of the Greenville softball team continued Tuesday as it picked up a key doubleheader sweep over Rose-Hulman. The women were led by the performance of senior Ashley Woodrome as she hurled two complete game victories. The Lady Panthers won the first 2-1 and the second game 1-0.

In game one, Greenville used a second inning RBI double by Jessie Finke to take a 1-0 lead. Rose-Hulman tied the game in the third, and it remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Becca Oldham connected on her team-high fifth home run of the season.

Mattie Fairchild and Shannon Elbe collected two hits apiece.

Woodrome struck out seven and permitted four hits and three walks.

Game two saw Greenville post a run in the bottom of the fifth which held up for the win.

In the fifth inning, a Fairchild RBI double scored Bryn McKie.

McKie and Fairchild each posted two hits.

Woodrome earned the shutout as she gave up four hits and one walk while striking out four.

The Lady Panthers record improved to 27-11, which is the most victories in a season since 1997. The women travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan for their final regular season games on Saturday before beginning play in the SLIAC tournament on Thursday and Friday, May 1 and 2.
