Softball splits a pair at MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team traveled to MacMurray on Saturday and returned home with a split of the day's games. Greenville lost 4-3 in game one before returning to win 8-0 in game two.

Game 1 Recap

Tiffany Samsoe did all she could to give the Panthers a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past MacMurray as the Panthers lost 4-3.

Samsoe put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Panthers. She doubled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning.

Brianna Anderson looked sharp in the circle. Anderson gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during her 2 1/3 innings of work.

The bottom of the first saw MacMurray take an early lead 1-0. MacMurray's fourth inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate.

After pushing across two runs in the top of the fifth on Samsoe's homers, the Panthers faced just a 4-3 deficit.

Game 2 Recap

A magnificent effort by Brianna Anderson led the Panthers to an 8-0 win in six innings in the second game.

Anderson struck out 12 hitters en route to the the Panthers win. The Panther pitcher tossed six innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.

Five runs in the opening three innings allowed the Panthers to take an early cushion that held up.

An RBI single by Andrea Martin and a sacrifice fly by Laney Thacker during the first inning gave Greenville a 2-0 lead.

A solo home run by Shannon Elbe, a sacrifice fly by Anaya Tobiason, and a wild pitch in the second inning helped the Panthers put some runs on the board early.

The Panthers were led by Elbe's hitting. Elbe went 2-for-3, drove in one and scored one run.
