Softball falls in two at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The softball team fell short in two games on Thursday afternoon at Fontbonne. Greenville lost by scores of 7-4 and 4-2.

Game 1 Recap

The Lady Panthers were defeated in the first game of the day despite gaining the early 1-0 lead. Andrea Martin's RBI double scored Tiffany Samsoe with two outs in the first inning.

Fontbonne put four runs on the scoreboard in their half of the fourth inning.

Greenville got one of the runs back with an RBI single by Anaya Tobiason with two outs in the fifth. The Griffins added a run in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to carry a 7-2 lead into the seventh inning.

The Lady Panther half of the seventh was productive as Greenville posted two runs. Tobiason produced an RBI double, and they scored on a groundout by Samsoe.

The game ended with the tying run at the plate.

Caitie Opp threw 4 2/3 innings for Greenville and allowed five runs, four earned, on two hits and four walks. Cayla Speaks permitted two runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Game 2 Recap

Bryn McKie, Samsoe, Martin, and Brianna Anderson each had two hits in Greenville's 4-2 loss to Fontbonne in game two.

McKie and Tobiason crossed the plate for Greenville's runs.

Fontbonne opened the game with a run in the first and two in the second. Greenville added two tallies in the top of the third on Samsoe's RBI single and a fielder's choice from Laney Thacker.

Fontbonne regained the two run advantage with a run in the bottom of the third.

Anderson pitched a complete game as she allowed four runs, two earned, in six innings on six hits and five walks. She struck out five.

The Lady Panthers (15-17-1, 10-4 SLIAC) travel to MacMurray for a doubleheader on Saturday.
