Softball Drops Important Twinbill to Blackburn

Published: April 13, 2021

GEENVILLE, Ill. Tuesday nights regular season closing double-header featured a tight battle for the 3rd and 4th spot in the final SLIAC Standings. Blackburn College played host to GC at Lady Panther field and overcame the Panthers 5-1, 4-3.

Tuesdays double dip was regularly scheduled to be played in Carlinville, Ill. at Blackburn College, but unfavorable weather conditions forced a last second change to the Greenville College facilities. BC was treated as the host club and took advantage early in the tilt, winning the opener 5-1.

Freshman pitcher Jessica Laubecher was charged the loss, receiving little run support in the seven-inning duel.

The Panthers suffered a similar fate in the nightcap, as the Beavers of Blackburn eked out a 4-3 decision. Senior hurler Angela Sheets was superb for the Black & Orange, dishing a seven-inning gem but taking the loss. The game reached its climax in the bottom of the sixth inning as freshman outfielder Amy Sheets was called out at home on a bang-bang play at the plate as the Panthers trailed 4-3.

Greenville College softball ends the 2012 regular season with an overall record of 14-23 (8-8 SLIAC). The squad looks to have secured the 4th spot in the 2012 SLIAC Conference Tournament that will commence on Thursday, April 3 in St. Louis.
