Softball All-Conference Team Features Eight Lady Panthers; Samsoe Takes Newcomer of the Year

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Fontbonne University's Cassandra Glixman and Spalding University's Kelci Flener took home top honors on the 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball All-Conference team. Glixman was named the SLIAC Player of the Year whil Flener was named SLIAC Pitcher of the Year. In addition Fontbonne head coach Bill Rosner was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year and Greenville College's Tiffany Samsoe was named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Cassandra Glixman, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., hit .437 during conference play in helping Fontbonne to the SLIAC regular season title. Glixman wasthird during conference play in batting average while leading the league in runs scored with 30 and in runs batted in with 25.

Kelci Flener, a sophomore from Louisville Ky., finished in the top three of the three major pitching categories during conference play. She led the league in wins with 10 and strikeouts with 83 while finishing third in earned-run average with a 1.65 mark. She added six complete games and two shutoutsin 10 conference starts.

Tiffany Samsoe, a freshman from Norco, Calif., paced a Greenville offense that was tops in the conference in batting average and runs scored. Samsoe hit .517 in 18 conference games, the second best average in the conference, with nine doubles and 25 runs batted in. She ranked third in conference play in RBI as well as total bases and added five stolen bases and 22 runs scored.

Fontbonne head coach Bill Rosner was named the Coach of the Year after guiding the Griffins to a 31-5 regular season mark and a 17-1 conference record, capturing their fourth consecutive SLIAC regular season title. The Griffins set a school record with 20 consecutive wins earlier this year and are currently ranked #21 in the latest NFCA National Poll. This marks the third consecutive year Rosner has earned SLIAC Coach of the Year honors.

In addition Principia College received the conference's Team Sportsmanship Award which recognizes the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship. The 2014 All-Sportsmanship Team includes Abby Sutton (Blackburn), Sam Remmert (Eureka), Cara Hargae (Fontbonne), Mattie Fairchild (Greenville), Samantha Shepard (Iowa Wesleyan), Mackenzie Hocker (MacMurray), Jessyca MacMullin (Principia), Brooke Lamon (Spalding), Alison Stabenow (Webser) and Alyssa Johnson (Westminster).
