Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill.-- The GC Men's basketball team was recognized in post-season All-Conference awards, with Alex Mumphard receiving a SLIAC Honorable Mention and the team receiving the Sportsmanship Award once again.

Mumphard was the only Panther represented GC in the post season honors, being recognized as a SLIAC Honorable Mention. He had a 44.4% overall field goal average, scoring 317 points, 199 in SLIAC play. Mumphardalso finished the season fourth in the SLIAC in assists recorded, with 54 total.

In addition to his Honorable Mention, Mumphard also received membership to the 2012-2013 All-Sportsmanship Team.

"It is great to be honored for these post-season awards," Mumphard explains. "Being able to see my hard workfrom the off-season add up is rewarding...but I would without a doubt trade [my awards] for the opportunity to play in the Conference tournament with my brothers."

This team-first, family mentality is clearly a theme in GC basketball. Greenville College received the team Sportsmanship Award for the sixth consecutive year. The team has won the award consistently due to the leadership of their head coach, Dr. George Barber. Their streak began at the close of the 2007-2008 season and remains standing after receiving the award this year.

"As a team we have goals to honor God in the way we compete," Mumphard added. "Our coaches do a great job teaching us what it means to truly be tough...diving on the floor for loose balls, taking charges, and giving our best effort each night. We understand the privilege we have to compete...this Sportsmanship Award is a direct reflection of the leadership we have in our coaches."
