Robbie Schomaker Assumes Position of Interim Head Football Coach

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Greenville College football program will play the 2013 season under new leadership as offensive coordinator Robbie Schomaker has been promoted to interim head coach. Schomaker replaces former head coach Ordell Walker who accrued a career record of 22-9, coached the team to the school's first NCCAA Victory Bowl championship, and guided the football program to UMAC championships in 2010 and 2012. Walker has been named head football coach at fellow NCCAA member Bluefield College in Virginia.
"Coach Walker was a mentor to me and he will be dearly missed as a friend," said Schomaker. "One important thing he taught me about discipleship was its not enough to be discipled. At some point, you have to become the mentor, and I am excited about that opportunity. We talk a lot in our meetings about the fact that this program is bigger than any one individual, and no matter who is at the helm we will continue to strive and pursue the reaching of our potential as a program and as individuals."
Schomaker came to Greenville College in 2010 after four seasons of coaching. Schomaker previously coordinated the offense and coached the quarterbacks. The Panthers finished in top 10 in the NCAA Division III for rushing yards with an average in excess of 300 yards per game each year Schomaker served as offensive coordinator.
In addition, he helped develop 11 first team all-Conference Players, including two UMAC offensive player of the year winners and an NCCAA offensive player of the year.
His 2011 offense ranked third in the country with 501 yards per game. The team also led the conference in rushing yards, total yards, and points in 2011 and 2012. The offense Greenville runs is organized and implements a fast-paced, no huddle, shotgun triple option system.
As recruiting coordinator, Schomaker implemented and organized a national and local recruiting system. He oversaw successful recruiting trips to California, Arizona, Florida, and Texas while creating a system of weekly recruiting letters and emails. Greenville's three largest recruiting classes were secured under his leadership with an average of 65 new players each season from 2010-12.
Before Greenville, Coach Schomaker was at Trinity International University where he spent four seasons as the offensive line coach and two seasons as the special teams coordinator. Coach Schomaker received his bachelor's degree in business management at Trinity International in 2005 where he was a two year starter at defensive end. Coach Schomaker is finishing his master's thesis in communication and culture from TIU.
"I could not imagine a better scenario to take over a program," said Schomaker. "The men on this team love each other, hold each other accountable and are talented football players. Although we will all miss Coach Walker dearly we will not allow our emotions to define our actions. We will strive and move ahead towards our goals as a program."
