Published: April 13, 2021

HILTON HEAD, S.C.-- GC men continue their winning ways with another 5-4 victory on Spring Break, this time against Gordon College.

Following their morning victory over Messiah College, the Panther Men grabbed a quick lunch and were immediately back on court to take on Gordon College. After the grueling five hour match against Messiah, the Panthers would have to dig deep to come up with another win. For this contest the Panthers would be playing on clay courts for the only time this season.

Once again the Panthers were able to gain the advantage with a strong doubles performance. After falling behind 3-0, Sophomores Alex Dowley and Jordan Tingle quickly fought back with an 8-5 triumph at #2 doubles. Soon after, Ryan Haas and Demetrius Bush scored an 8-1 victory at #3 doubles. The #1 team of Drew Herlein and Jon Urshan played some of their best doubles of the year, but fell by a score of 8-4.

Demetrius Bush quickly put GC on the board in singles with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 victory at #6 singles. Soon after Ryan Haas gained the victory at #5 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-2. The Panthers were in need of one more match to gain the match victory. Jordan Tingle continued his strong play by winning his first set 6-2 at #2 singles. His opponent fought back to grab the second set 6-4. Tingle quickly fell behind in the deciding 10- point Supertiebreaker by a score of 7-3. With the team match hanging in the balance, Tingle played flawless tennis and stormed back to win 7 straight points to earn the victory for the Panthers! This proved to be a very important victory as Gordon went on to secure the victories at #3 and #4 singles. Final score GC 5, Gordon 4.

Coach Brannon stated "It was a great day for our team! We talked at our first meeting of the season about playing with toughness and togetherness. Today was a great example of that. We faced adversity several times, and we handled it very well. Both matches today were great team wins. We received winning contributions from every member in our lineup. Matches like these were the kind of matches that we couldn't pull out last year. If we can stay together like we did today, we will have a great season!"

Panthers season record now stands at 3-1. Their next contest will be against Heidelberg on Tuesday at 3pm in Hilton Head.
