Panther Soccer Falls to Fontbonne in Final Minutes

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill.--The GC men's soccer team lost 2-1 on Senior Night with a late Griffin goal.

Fontbonne was first to get on the scoreboard when Zach Schuchardt scored in the 26th minute. Greenville senior, Jacob Krisher scored the only Panther goal of the game in the 61st minute. Krisher's unassisted goal brought the score to a 1-1 tie until the 84th minute when Fontbonne's Zach Meyer found the back of the net. This goal would prove to be the final one of the match and Greenville fell 2-1.

"We played the best game we've played all season, but we are in the part of the season where performances don't matter, results do," Head Coach, Chris Swift explained. "I'm so proud of our seniors and I'm absolutely gutted for them because they didn't deserve this, but at some point you have to take what you deserve and we haven't done that."

Greenville outshot Fontbonne 26 to 7 in the game. Greenville goalkeeper, Thomas Crown, made 2 saves.

"We have to continue trusting the process and each other because if we play like this, we will win games," Swift said. "We still have all our goals in reach, and we are doing the right things."

Greenville's twelve seniors were honored before the game; Paul Anders, Davis Dossett, Ryan Haas, David Hall, Willie Kersey, Jacob Krisher, Lucas Miller, Matt Miller, Matt Morin, Aaron Mulholland, Mark Ward, and Robert Wright. These men have dedicated a great deal of time and effort to the soccer program over their collegiate careers and they are much appreciated.

The loss moves the team to third in the SLIAC with a record of 6-9-3 (5-3 SLIAC). The team will take the field again on Saturday, November 2 when they travel to Principia College for their final Conference match of 2013.
