Panther Baseball Loses Both in Fontbonne Double-Header

GREENVILLE, Ill.-- The GC Baseball team fell in both games in the double-header against Fontbonne, losing 5-4 and 3-0 on their home field.

In the first game, Fontbonne took an early lead, bringing the score to 4-0 after just two innings. Greenville fought back in the next two innings. Jared Souhrada hit a double and Tim Osborne got a home run in the third inning for three runs, and Matt Reinholz scored off a Souhrada RBI to earn the final run for GC. This tied the game at 4-4, where it remained for 6 more innings. In the top of the 11th, Fontbonne scored a run that went unanswered by the Panthers, allowing them to take home the heartbreaking 5-4 victory. Josh Wagemann, Nick Bifano, Cody Hintershire, and Scott Voyles shared time on the mound. Wagemann faced 12 batters and allowed four runs. Hintershire allowed just three hits of the 12 batters he faced. Bifano faced 12 batters as well and allowed just one hit. Voyles faced 15 batters and allowed 2 hits and a run. Voyles was credited with the loss.

The second game was not as close for Greenville. Fontbonne earned the shut-out with a 3-0 win over the home team. Greenville allowed Fontbonne to score in the 5th and 7th innings. Tyler Pilcher was credited with the Panther loss. Pilcher faced 22 batters, allowed 6 hits, and gave up two runs in his time on the mound. Derek Reckmann and Jason Collingwood also pitched for GC. Reckmann faced 3 batters and did not allow any hits. Collingwood faced 5 batters, allowed 2 hits and a run.

The Panthers record now stands at 6-10 (3-4). They will play again on Friday, April 5 when they take on Spalding on their home field.
