GREENVILLE, Ill.-- The Greenville College Men's Tennis team returns to the court Saturday, February 23for the first game oftheir 2013 season. The Panthers are expected to have an impressive season with 8 returning playerswith experience in theSLIAC Tournament.

Greenville College men's tennis finished their 2012 season with an overall record of 9-11 and went 2-3 in SLIAC play. The team finished 4th in the regular season Conference standings and took 4th in SLIAC tournament play.

The team will be led by Coach Brett Brannon, who is in his 11th year as head Men's Tennis coach at GC. Coach Brannon is excited to see what the 2013 season will hold.

"If we can continue to develop leadership and character as a team, the sky is the limit for us." Brannonsays. "I'm seeing rapid improvement from the 2nd year guys."

Greenville graduated two key seniors last year, Ian Wolf and Todd Ganton. Wolf was named the team MVP last year, competing No. 1 in both singles and doubles play. Fortunately, the team can rely on the returners to fill the void left by graduation.

"We do have a freshman that is replacing Ian at the 1 singles spot," Brannonexplains. "Jon Urshan will fill in. This was very important for our teambecauseit allows everyone else to stay in their same spot as last year."

The SLIAC looks to be a tough Conference to play in this year, as many team have stong returning squads with veteran leaders. Despite the obstacles that are ahead of the team, Coach Brannon has high hopes for his team.

"I expect us to be able to close out some of the matches that we weren't able to last year, "he says. "In singles, there is no substitute for experience. Now that many of our varsity guys have that experience, we can take the next step."
