Men’s Tennis Splits Matches 1-1 in Final Day Competition

Published: April 13, 2021

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. Mens Tennis headed into Thursdays spring break finale with a double-match battle against both Westminster (PA) and Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute. GC started with a dominating 9-0 performance against Westminster, but was unable to control RPI who slid past the Panthers 6-3.

In the first match Greenville put on a clinic, blanking Westminster 9-0 to clinch the sixth win of the young spring season. Seniors Joe Newlin, Taylor Dunnington, and Jesse Shaw, juniors Ian Wolf and Michael Read, and freshman Ryan Haas all picked up decisive singles wins. The GC doubles teams rolled as well, going 3-0 during the competition while putting up efforts of 8-2, 8-1, 8-6.

The second match however proved to be a much steeper climb for the mens squad. GC dropped the match 6-3 to Renssalaer and failed to claim a doubles win in the loss. Greenville was led by freshman Ryan Haas who picked up the 6-1, 6-4 #5 singles decision.

The Panthers finished the 2011 spring break road trip to Hilton Head with a record of 3-2 and improved to 6-2 overall on the season.

Mens Tennis will resume play on Monday, March 28 as they travel to Fontbonne University to take on the Griffins at 6:00 pm.
