Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. In what served as the final home match of the 2011 season and senior day, GC mens tennis defended the Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex in convincing fashion Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 dismantling of Maryville University. Aside from the win, seniors Joe Newlin, Taylor Dunnington, and Jesse Shaw were all recognized for their contributions and commitment to the program.

Coming off Easter break the Panthers didnt miss a beat, sweeping the doubles matches 3-0 to kick off the contest. Newlin and Ian Wolf rolled 8-0 in #1s, Dunnington and Haas edged a 9-7 victory in #2s, and Shaw and Todd Ganton completed the sweep with their #3s 8-5 effort.

In singles competition, the men picked up where they left off in doubles with another decisive team sweep, 6-0. Spotlight senior Jesse Shaw headlined the singles efforts with a 6-0, 6-0, straight set winner in #4 singles.

With the win Greenville mens tennis moves to 11-6, (3-2 SLIAC) on season, and will now set their sights on Webster University in the first round of the SLIAC Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. Webster edged the Black & Orange earlier in the season in a 5-4 heartbreaker, and GC will no doubt be looking for revenge.

Greenville will battle Webster on Saturday, April 30, at 8:00 am.
