Men's Tennis Concludes Record Setting Season

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill.-- The 2013 GC Mens Tennis team had a record setting season! Their 12 regular season victories was the highest win total in Coach Brannons tenure as coach. Their 9-5 record in non-conference matches also set a new record for a Coach Brannon led team. In non-conference competition, the Panthers defeated Messiah, who finished with a 10-6 record. They also beat a Franklin College squad that ended with a record of 11-6. Their most impressive non-conference victory came against Concordia Wisconsin. Concordia finished with a record of 16-9, and are headed to the NCAA National Championships after winning their conference. Despite playing a tougher schedule this year, the Panthers increased their win total by 3!

Doubles play was once again a real strength for the Panthers. They ended the year with an overall doubles record of 43-23, compared to last years record of 33-27. The Panthers also showed improvement in their singles play. Last year the Panthers finished with a 51-62 mark in singles. This year they improved to 65-58.

The future looks bright for the Panthers. They are not losing any varsity contributors to graduation. And next year, they will only have one senior in their varsity lineup. Sophomore Alex Dowley stated We had a great year! We knew that we would be able to learn from the inexperienced mistakes that we made last year. We used the experience that we gained, and we took a big step forward! And with such a young team, we know the best is still yet to come!

Members of the 2013 Tennis Team: Jonathan Allen, Ryan Mulholland, Ryan Haas, Jordan Tingle, Alex Dowley, Andrew Herlein, Jon Wilson, Demetrius Bush, Jon Urshan, Code Power, and Mason Tennell.
