Men's Tennis Bounces Back With 8-1 Win Over Oakland City

Coming off of a very tough loss against Conference rival Webster on Thursday, the Mens Tennis team traveled to NCAA Division II Oakland City University on a sunny Friday afternoon and earned the impressive 8-1 win.

The Panthers came out strong by taking all three doubles matches. Drew Herlein and Jon Urshan played their best and most consistent match of the season, winning by a score of 8-5 over a very strong Oakland City team. Jordan Tingle and Alex Dowley continued their successful season, with a very quick 8-2 victory at #2 doubles. Ryan Haas and Demetrius Bush followed that up with another impressive 8-2 victory at #3 doubles.

The Panthers carried their momentum into singles play. Ryan Haas earned the first singles victory for GC with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles. Alex Dowley was able to clinch the match for Greenville with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #4 singles. Even after the Panthers had the decisive win, they continued their strong and focused singles play. Sophomore Drew Herlein played his best match of the season, earning a 6-2, 7-5 win at #3 singles. Freshman Code Power had another strong performance winning by a score of 6-2, 6-3 at #6 singles. Freshman Jon Urshan put the exclamation point on the day for the Panthers. He finished off a strong performance by winning 6-4, 7-5 at #1 singles. Final Score: GC 8, Oakland City 1.

The Panthers record now stands at 7-5. They will host Westminster this coming Wednesday at 4pm.
