Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. GC mens soccer registered their third tie of the 2011 as they wrapped up the final match of a four-game home stand with a 1-1 tie against Elmhurst on Friday.

The Panthers efforts were headlined by senior GK Nathan Haas who notched five saves in the draw. Haas showcased a number of athletic denials, holding a strong Elmhurst squad to one goal in the afternoon match.

Greenvilles lone goal was struck by sophomore Mark Ward in the 12th minute. Wards shot was assisted by senior David Dunlop, who delivered on a well-placed ball by fellow upperclassmen Daniel Taylor.

Elmhursts Matt Sterner netted an unassisted equalizer in the 64th minute to bring the match to a 1-1 deadlock. Both teams battled throughout the remaining minutes, but defense prevailed and 2OT was needed to decide the tie.

Collectively the Panther squad outshot EC 16-13, with both Dunlop and Taylor attempting four shots in the match.

With the 1-1 tie GC mens soccer moves to 2-2-3, and will again take to the pitch tomorrow as they travel to St. Louis and battle Washington University under the lights at 8:30 pm.
