Men's Basketball Controls Second Half in Victory

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The Greenville men's basketball team was able to post a dominating second half en route to a 98-67 victory over Principia. Simon Martin led the home team, posting 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Martin was GC's leader in both points scored and rebounds. He went 10-11 in field goals made.

Greenville's offensive success was a team effort, with six different players scoring 8 points or more in the game.

Defensively, Ben Giertz was an asset to the Panthers. Giertzcredited with 9 rebounds, a block,and two steals. GC was also 11-11 in free throws made, an impressive 100% teamaverage.

Principia jumped out to an early lead and went into the half time break with a lead of 38-27.Despite the early deficit,Greenville came out of the locker roomready to play anddominated the second half outscoring Principia 71-29. The game's final score came to 98-60, Greenville.

Principia was led by Matt Jones who scored 25 points. Kenny Sydness was also impressive for the visiting team, recording 20 points, 3 steals, and 5 rebounds.

With the win, Greenville moves to 9-14 (6-8 SLIAC). Principia falls to 0-22 (0-13 SLIAC). Greenville returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. when they host MacMurray.
