Men's track and field obtains four entries in NCAA outdoor championships

Published: April 13, 2021

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Mens and Womens Track and Field Committee announced on Sunday the participants in the 2015 NCAA Division III Mens and Womens Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Greenville's men's track and field program will be represented by Bruce Gray in two individual events, the 4x100 meter relay team, and Andrew Sharp.

Gray enters the championships looking to add to his school record 12 NCAA All-American honors and cap his legacy as the school's all-time greatest sprinter. He will compete in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and the relay. He qualified for the national meet in all three events each season -- a total of 12 entries over his four year career.

Gray's relay teams have steadily improved from 17th in 2012 to second last season. They were 11th in 2013. He will compete this season with Terran Daniels, Jarrid Williams, and Jonah Peoples. Gray and Peoples are the only holdovers from the national runner up team of 2014. The team's best time of 41.10 seconds this season, places them fifth fastest among those in the field.

Gray will be seeking his first national championship in his individual events -- the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Last year, Gray was the national runner up in the 100 meter dash after ranking third in 2013. His first season saw him place ninth, just missing All-American status. He recorded a time of 10.51 seconds this year to enter as the second best in this year's championships.

Gray has been most consistent in the 200 meter event as he has earned an All-American award each season. He was sixth in 2012, fourth in 2013, and fifth last year. A time of 21.26 this season ranks second in the NCAA Division III.

Andrew Sharp will be a first time qualifier as he will compete in the 800 meter run. He enters the championships after recording a season-best of 1:50.63 which is the season's ninth best mark.

For each mens individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each womens individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

The championships will be held May 21-23 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
