Men's track and field finishes fifth at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The NCAA Division III No. 21 men's track and field team competed at Illinois College on Saturday and returned with fifth place. Senior Bryan Waugh was first in the weight throw, gaining 10 of G.C.'s 42 team points.

Waugh's mark of 17.09 meters (56-1) defeated Deondra Canaday of Lindenwood by one-half of an inch. Waugh came into the event with the fifth best seed.

Jarrid Williams leapt 13.04 meters (42-9.5) to earn second place in the triple jump. Williams efforts netted eight points for Greenville.

Taking third in the 800 meter run was freshman Andrew Sharp. Sharp finished in 2:00.43, falling short of second place by 13 hundredths of a second. Sharp produced six points.

Two entries in relay events each gained five points in the team standings as the Panthers took fourth in the 800 meter relay and fifth in the 1600 meter relay. Greenville's 4x200 team of Jonah Peoples, Matthew Hughes, Mitchell Thompson, and Matthew McGowan completed the event in 1:38.15. The 4x400 team of Nathan Allyn, Treyvon Manning, Sharp, and Parker Wray used a time of 3:32.41 to place fifth.

Sprinter Bruce Gray finished fifth in his return to the track in the 60 meter dash. Gray completed the race in 7.08 seconds for four points.

The men find out their next ranking on Feb. 10 before competing at Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 14.
