Men's tennis drops Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. -- The mens tennis team defeated Millikin 7-2 on Saturday as they played indoors at the Decatur Athletic Club due to weather conditions.
The Panthers were looking to continue their winning ways, following a perfect 5-0 record on spring break. They knew it would be a tough task, as Millikin also just completed an undefeated spring break trip of their own.
For the sixth match in a row, the Panthers were able to gain the lead in the match by a strong showing in doubles play. The No. 2 doubles team of Nate Wieland and Demetrius Bush closed out their opponents first with a score of 8-4. Code Power and Justin McDonald followed with an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Jon Urshan put the Panthers on the board first in singles play at No. 2. He used strong serving and great serve returns to win a convincing match 6-1, 6-4.
Senior Demetrius Bush put together a very solid effort at No. 4, winning by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman Nate Wieland was trailing in his match at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-3, 4-1. Knowing that the team match could be clinched with a comeback, the freshman dug deep. He won the second set 6-4 and the third set supertiebreaker 10-7.
Junior Code Power and senior Justin McDonald put the finishing touches on a very successful day for the Panthers.
Power gained a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. McDonald followed that up with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
The Panthers (8-2) open conference play on Wednesday as they host Westminster.
