BOX SCORE

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The men's soccer team allowed two second half penalty kick goals as they lost 2-0 at Washington-St. Louis on Wednesday night. Goalkeeper Thomas Crown recorded six saves.

After a scoreless first period, Greenville held Washington at bay until the Bears were awarded penalty shots.

Washington outshot Greenville 27-7 and had 10 corner kicks.

Greenville's Peter Plakorus took three shots.

"This was always going to be a marker for our young team to see exactly where we stacked up with the big boys and we acquitted ourselves well," said head coach Chris Swift.

"The most disappointing thing is that we didn't come away with a result. We got ourselves organized, and caused Wash U some real problems and had a chance to tie the game late."

"We are not satisfied with a close loss to a nationally ranked team and we won't be satisfied until we are beating these teams on a consistent basis. They are at the standard we aspire to get to, and we need to clean some things up and we will get there."

The Panthers (3-2) return to action at Aurora on Friday afternoon.
