GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's soccer team dropped their final home match of the season in controversial fashion as Webster was awarded a penalty kick that they converted in the contest's 12th minute. Prior to the game, the men's soccer program honored graduating seniors Ben Linder, Thomas Crown, Spencer Pulliam, and Jordan York.

Greenville had a few opportunities to tie the match but couldn't break through with three shots.

Webster outshot the Panthers 11-3, including a five shot advantage in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Crown concluded his home career with four saves in the outing.

Brent Lehr produced two shots, and Jacob Jones had one shot.

"That's a real tough one to swallow tonight," said head coach Chris Swift. "To have such a big match decided as it was is really disappointing."

"I'm so proud of our guys. They came out and fought and hung with a very good Webster team. We hit the crossbar and had a couple of other chances, but nothing fell for us. That's really been the story of our season."

"I can't say enough about our four seniors. Ben, Spencer, Jordan, and Thomas have given so much to this program and are truly the embodiment of what we uphold. I couldn't ask for a group to represent Greenville College soccer any better, and they have really helped lay the foundation for what is a very bright future in our program."

The Panthers (9-8-1, 5-3 SLIAC) travel to Eureka on Saturday to play their final regular season contest at 3 p.m. In order for the Panthers to advance to the SLIAC tournament, Greenville must win on Saturday and Spalding must lose or tie one of its remaining two games.
